The members of the Chiefly clan and the people of the district refused to attend the ceremony. My 'MATANIVANUA' refused the invitation simply because I am still the District Chief of Oinafa. The TALATALA also refused to conduct the church service. The affair was confined mainly to family members of the two brothers [Sautiak and Emotama] (FESAITU) and Aisea Atalifo who confessed himself to another member of the chiefly clan that morning that he had realized that what was being prepared to be done was wrong and that, it was going to be an absolute farce. The ceremony could not be performed according to Rotuman chiefly custom.
